I Can Breathe! Inc. began when educator, writer Adrien Janis Bledstein experienced an adult onset lung disorder. Adrien developed masks to take control of her environment by reducing exposure to cold air and airborne irritants. Other people's mask envy encouraged her to create a business to manufacture and distribute quality masks. Avoiding environmental challenges with masks improved her health.
As business grew, Hannah R. Bledstein joined her mother at I Can Breathe! Hannah comes with an MFA in theater and is a milliner. See www.slightlybentdesigns.net. She built muppets at Jim Henson's in NYC, and was a costume crafts artisan at both the Guthrie theater and the Denver Center for Performing Arts.
For USITT 2006 Hannah led a workshop: "Hats will also play a role in the regular programming as freelance milliner Hannah Bledstein of Chicago will explain a method of creating your own hat block. Her process uses lightweight but durable materials that are very cost efficient."
