07/31/2002: "Thanks for the mask design, I am nearly in tears as I put it on and immediately feel my ear swelling go down. I finally have a mask I can wear all day. Please keep up the work for those of us that suffer from sensitivities that make other people think we are crazy -- Thanks, Karen Dean" 08/09/2002: "This is my second time writing you since I have received my silk mask. Time is now counted as before mask and after mask. It is safer for me than pills [which don't work anyway] and is the best thing I've ever found to get me through an allergic period. -- Thanks, Karen Dean"
Bill Cruchon wrote: "Adrien, Just wanted to write and tell you how pleased I've been with your excellent, light weight silk masks. I purchased one and discovered immediately how comfortable and effective it was, so I ordered several more. The mask works wonders during times when substances I'm allergic to are in the air. I've worn it for bicycling, motorcycling, working in the yard, and sleeping. For years I tried other masks and always found them hot, uncomfortable, miserable to wear. Your silk mask is so comfortable that I hardly notice that I'm wearing it and it does a great job of filtering out pollens and other irritants. Thanks for inventing such a great product!"

A year later, Bill sent this picture of himself wearing a well-washed silk mask with the following comments: "The masks continue to work well, even after many washings and quite a bit of use. I found that not only is the silk mask an effective screen for pollen and dust, it is also very effective to use while sanding. I discovered this while doing some repair work on my wood windows, which involved considerable patchwork and sanding. I bought some cheap hardware store masks for the job and they failed to keep the clouds of dust out of my nose. I tried the silk mask and found that I was not breathing in any dust at all, and believe me there was a lot of dust! I can't tell you how appreciative I am of your product and I do not hesitate to recommend them." See Disclaimer.

Charlie does not.
The patented (protected by U.S. Patent: 5,701,892) sleek construction holds the fabric away from the nose and mouth so one can talk. Adjustable ear loops and a pliable nose bar allow you to fit the mask to your face. This beautifully hand sewn silk mask is made in Chicago, IL, USA.
Fiber Contents: natural silk, nylon, cotton/polyester, hard plastic, and latex free polyester elastic.
Washing Instructions: Hand wash in cool water with an unscented detergent that does not leave a residue to clog the filter. For example: Seventh Generation Laundry or Dish Detergent or Arm and Hammer Detergent for sensitive skin, or Purex Free and Clear. Oxyclean powder well desolved works well with the silk mask. Pay attention to your own sensitivities. Do not rub as rubbing could rearrange the weave of natural silk fabric. Rinse well. For quick dry, roll in a terry cloth towel and wear mask damp or hang the mask to dry. Frequency of washing depends upon humidity, activity, and grit in the air. If breathing through the mask becomes difficult or you begin to feel a burning sensation in your chest, remove your mask and wash it. Do not dry clean. The mask may be dipped in hydrogen peroxide, then rinsed and washed. As the mask ages (washed about 60 times), the filtration becomes more "efficient," meaning it needs to be washed more often--about every 2 to 3 hours instead of 4 to 6 hours of wearing time (some people wash less often, I'm picky--Adrien the designer.)
Caution: The mask does not provide protection to lungs. For smoke, fine particles, gases, hazardous dusts, or chemicals seek other types of masks which are NIOSH approved for toxic gases, asbestos, silica, or spray paint. The consumer is responsible to determine the suitability of application. Do not wear mask near a flame.

What customers say about the I Can Breathe! Silk Comfort Mask:
October 6, 1997, "Dear Adrien: The silk mask has helped immensely against dust when vacuuming or when the mold count is high or when it's damp or cold. The effect of wearing the mask is literally instantaneous. I stop coughing--nose stops running and so does post nasal drip.... Good luck and good breathing-- Thanks, L-M. Spinelli" Chicago, college teacher. On the phone she added: "I wear it in odd places and forget I have it on. When I talk, people get used to it and don't ask about it." She finds it very comfortable, and the effect a great contrast to when she is not wearing it. For throat irritation from humidity and cold, the silk provides an immediate screen.
"I have been wearing [the silk mask] at night, which not only helps me to sleep better, but I'm not stuffed up and miserable in the morning. I also plan to wear it while gardening and working in the yard this summer. Thank you so much." A. Janis, Utah
December 12, 1998, on Chicago's south side near Lake Michigan, four buildings were "imploded." The west wind blew the resulting dust cloud over the area where spectators were permitted to view the event. Half a dozen spectators later told me they wish they had masks, the dust was so thick. Ten blocks south, the dust could not be seen, but could be smelled. Out for a brisk walk, my husband carried a silk mask in his pocket. When the smell reached him, he began to cough, remembered to put on the mask, and went on his way comfortably. Adrien
Hot-weather wear: "In hot, humid weather, drinking plenty of water plus wearing a silk mask seems to help my body regulate better without exhaustion. When pollution is high and ozone burns my lungs or particulate matter causes fatigue, I switch to a Honeycomb Mask with Activated Carbon Filter." Adrien Bledstein, designer.
July 15, 1997, an oral report from D. Kaufmann, Chicago: Last year in Barcelona, Spain, Ms. Kaufmann was ill from the pollution. Preparing for Portugal this summer she bought a silk mask. On returning, she reported the air was fresh in the seaside village so she didn't wear the mask. However, on one outing they walked up hill on a narrow street with high buildings on both sides. With the afternoon heat, traffic fumes, and dust, she felt more and more sluggish. Remembering the silk mask in her pocket, she whipped it out and put it on. She experienced instant relief from the heavy atmosphere. With restored energy, she bounded up the hill. She said she felt like she had taken a pep pill. [I had the same experience on a hot summer day in downtown Chicago. A.J.B, mask designer.]
"Now that I can breathe...." After hearing myself say this the umpteenth time as a consequence of wearing a mask, I realized that I Can Breathe! was a natural for the name of the company to produce masks for other people." I Can Breathe! Inc., designer Adrien Bledstein, President
